First published in 1975, Decanter is currently the most influential and widely circulated wine magazine in the world. It has more than 750,000 readers in more than 100 countries and a reputation begrudged by their competitors. The magazine has "won over the years" more than a good wine and, although it continues to be published as ever in the UK, today it has become much more than a handful of "couché" pages. Decanter has a paper and an online edition, organizes great wine tastings and all kinds of events related to the wine sector. Its reputation is based on a large team of collaborators, mostly great journalists and wine specialists from around the world, including Masters of Wine and Master Sommeliers.

But, probably, the most anticipated event organized by Decanter is the Decanter World Wine Awards. A contest that selects every year the most outstanding wines in the world. At the end of each edition, after tasting more than 16,000 wines, the quality of hundreds of wines is recognized, awarding medals according to the score obtained:
Platinum Medal: 97 - 100 pts.
Gold Medal: 95 - 96 pts.
Silver Medal: 90 - 94 pts.
Bronze medal: 86 - 89 points.
There is even the category of "recommended" wines for the ones that get between 83 and 85 points. But only 50 wines are chosen to obtain the highest award, the "Best in Show".
