Gumiel del Mercado

We, Rosa Arroyo and Moisés Calvo, were born in this small town and inherited from our ancestors this tradition, the vineyards and the farms where we have been planting new vineyards. With the same affection today, together with our children Rodrigo and Asier but adapted to new technologies, we continue to make our wines.
This project began in 1999, taking over the family vineyard and planting new plots. In 2003 we built the Winery and began to make our wines. From this project of work, effort and enthusiasm, ARROCAL, our passion, was born.

We currently have 85 hectares, divided between the native varieties of Tinto Fino and Albillo Mayor.

In the province of Burgos, Gumiel de Mercado is located, a municipality located in a privileged enclave within the Ribera del Duero and has always been a town with a marked winemaking tradition. Its structure is medieval and in the center of the town, there is a hill where our ancestors excavated underground cellars to preserve their wines.

We are committed to respecting the land and working the vine in a traditional way, continuing with the way of working that we learned from that first generation. The main objective is to follow sustainable viticulture, a true reflection of quality wines.

In 2003 the construction of our Winery began. A space equipped with the latest technical advances, but above all it was designed to respect our treasure as much as possible: our grapes. All production work is carried out using gravity, minimizing damage to the raw material. We have a wine aging warehouse. 600 barrels of which 80% are French oak and the rest American oak, where our wines grow the time necessary to give them structure, without losing their identity.
